Unity Township man dies in motorcycle crash Friday evening

Westmoreland County, Pa. – Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha released the following information after a motorcycle fatality occurs in Unity Township.

The incident occurred at St. Vincent Drive at the entrance to Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve on Friday, April 6th @ 5:38 pm. Coroner Bacha said Mark G. Gruss, a 60 y/o male died from Blunt Force Injuries to the Head and Chest in a single vehicle collision on his motorcycle. The death has been ruled accidental.

The decedent, Mark G. Gruss, was the operator and lone occupant of a 1998, Harley Davidson, traveling west on St. Vincent Drive. The motorcycle crossed the centerline, traveled off the south side of the roadway, over an embankment, and into a drainage culvert.

Mr. Gruss was separated from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner John A. Ackerman. The decedent was not utilizing a helmet at the time of the incident.
