A runaway girl from Minnesota was located in Phillips County on Tuesday, April 1, according to the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Jerry Lytle reported that the US Border Patrol notified him of a runaway in the region. The US Border Patrol stopped the car carrying the girl after a brief search. The driver was identified as a female runaway from Minnesota.
The Phillips County Sheriff’s Office initially received the girl and contacted her parents, who then left for Malta to pick her up. However, later that evening, she evaded detention and drove away in her car.
Sheriff Lytle and his deputies began a search throughout Phillips County. Attempts to locate the girl via her cell phone were fruitless because it appeared to be switched off.
Fergus County deputies discovered the girl near Roy, Montana, about an hour and 45 minutes after she had escaped. Sheriff Lytle went to Fergus County to meet the parents, who arrived in the early morning on Wednesday, April 2.
Sheriff Lytle thanked the Fergus County Sheriff’s Office for their aid in safely reuniting the youngster with her family.
