According to the mayor, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, as well as other local and state law enforcement agencies, will investigate the event.

According to Washington County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Billy Barber, Albert Creath, the previous owner of Creath Memorial Services, was arrested and charged with inappropriate desecration of bodies.

According to the chief deputy, Creath continued to provide funeral and burial services despite losing his license and business by renting storage units from iStorage on Reed Road.

According to Chief Deputy Barber, when deputies responded to a report about a coffin, they discovered Creath was still utilizing the storage container as a funeral home and charging clients.

On Thursday, a court approved Creath’s $600,000 bond.

Mayor Simmons added, “Greenville is a community that values dignity, respect, and the rule of law.” We will not tolerate any behaviors that contravene these beliefs. I urge anyone with information to come forward and help authorities with their investigation.

Mayor Simmons stated that they will continue to keep the public informed about the investigation.

“My administration remains committed to transparency, public safety, and ensuring that justice is served,” said Simmons, the mayor.
