A 24-year-old Chicago woman is charged with attempted murder after police say she shot a man early Saturday morning on the city’s West Side and was caught later that day in the north suburbs.
What we know: Police said the incident occurred around 3 a.m. inside a residential structure in the 4000 block of West Grenshaw Street. A 33-year-old man was shot in the leg when someone approached him and began firing.
Officers, including a SWAT unit, arrived at the location, but the shooter had already departed. They transported the person to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where they are currently in critical condition.
Keithina Brisco Edwards was detained later that morning, about 11:53 a.m., in Gurnee’s 100 block of O’Plaine. Investigators identified her as the person who shot the man around eight hours earlier.
She has now been charged with one felony count of attempted first-degree murder.
What we don’t know: Police have not revealed information about a probable motivation or if the victim and suspect know each other. Police did note, however, that Brisco Edwards lived on the same block as the shooting.
It is still unknown how Edwards arrived in Gurnee later that morning.
What’s next: Edwards is set to appear for a detention hearing in the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Tuesday.
The investigation is underway.
