A late-season wintry mix is expected to move over Northeast Pennsylvania Sunday night, turning to snow and perhaps interrupting Monday morning routines.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, snow is likely to begin late Sunday evening and intensify overnight as colder air moves into the region. Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected in Wilkes-Barre, Montrose, and Scranton, with grassy and elevated surfaces receiving the most snow.
Snowfall is expected to subside by mid-morning Monday. Temperatures may drop to the mid-20s to low 30s overnight, causing slick areas on untreated roadways during early commutes. Daytime highs Monday will only reach the low 40s before another cold front arrives Monday night, dropping lows down into the 20s by early Tuesday.
Residents could expect brief but significant travel delays during the Monday morning peak. Officials recommend adding extra commuting time, exercising caution on bridges and overpasses, and checking for local school or municipal delays.
This early April system follows a weekend of rain showers and above-average temperatures. Winter weather gear may be required again, but milder weather is forecast to return by Thursday across the region.
