Several sources reported seeing an orange glow as they were coming across the New Kensington Bridge while one other source crossing railroad tracks in New Kensington said he saw lots of black smoke over towards the 9th Street Bridge.

Fire crews from 3 different New Kensington companies and a RIT unit from Lower Burrell responded to the fire which appeared to be contained to the front of the building. Fire crews used hooked poles to tear the metal panels from the front of the building to gain minimal access to the fire inside. At a lower entrance, one firefighter used a gasoline saw to cut a hole in a garage door to gain access to the lower part of the structure.

A name on the building near the roof was listed as HR Curry. It’s unclear if that is the present owner. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. We’ll update this story as more details become available.
