Man shot in Vandergrift; police and detectives on scene

Vandergrift, Pa. – Police in Vandergrift, along with The Pennsylvania State Police and several other neighboring communities responded to the 100 block of East Madison Street after a man was apparently shot in the leg several blocks away late Tuesday evening.

Vandergrift Police Chief Joe Caparelli said the male in his early 20’s was shot in the leg and transported to a Pittsburgh Hospital. The trail of heavy blood was seen beginning on a sidewalk along Franklin Street, then through the crosswalk at Adams Street, then further up the street on Franklin to Madison where the victim walked the sidewalk along Madison for nearly 75 yards. Crime scene tape was wrapped around trees and signs for nearly 4 long blocks.

No information on the suspect was available. Westmoreland County detectives are processing the scene. AKVNEWS.COM will continue to update this story as more details are released.
