Man dies in Hempfield Township crash

Hempfield Township, Pa. – Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha has released the following information after a Motor Vehicle Fatality occurs on September 5, 2019, at 1:37 am along Middletown Road in Hempfield Township.

Coroner Bacha identified the man as 23-year-old Mario C. Paulone, of Lakeridge Drive in Hempfield Township. Paulone died from Multiple Blunt Force Injuries due to a single-vehicle collision.

Coroner Bacha said the decedent was the operator and lone occupant of a 2005, Chevrolet Trailblazer, traveling north on Middletown Road. The decedent failed to negotiate a slight left curve, left the east side of the roadway, and struck multiple trees. The decedent was entrapped within the vehicle. Emergency medical personnel transported the decedent to Excela Westmoreland Emergency Department where he was pronounced dead by a hospital physician.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the incident and a seat-belt was in use at the time of the incident. The airbags did not deploy in the decedent’s vehicle. Cell phone use being a factor in the incident is unknown at this time.

Pennsylvania State Police Greensburg Barracks also investigated.
