Leechburg, Pa. – An online threat on Instagram forced the closing of the Leechburg Area School District Thursday morning.
Parents received the closure notice about 5:00 am from the school district. Superintendent Tiffany Nix made this announcement to parents in an email: “This cancellation is a cautious move to keep everyone safe as we do not yet have an actor identified,” she wrote. “I have been working with authorities through the night to conclude this investigation, but unfortunately there is no resolution at this time.”
The district facebook page noted that buses to private schools and special placements will still run today. Buses to Leechburg and Lenape are cancelled.
Gilpin Township Police are investigating the incident. AKVNEWS will update this story as more details are released.
