Human Remains Discovered in Plum Borough Identified

Allegheny County – On April 19, 2020 at approximately 10:20 AM, a Plum Borough police officer was conducting a routine patrol in the 200 block of Repp Road, an area known for illegal dumping and offroad vehicle use.

The officer noticed a garbage bag with what appeared to be a shoe visible from a tear in the bag. The officer examined the contents of the bag further and observed human remains. Detectives from the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene and initiated and investigation. The human remains were transported to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office
for identification and a post mortem examination.

The remains were positively identified as those of 67-year-old Elizabeth Wiesenfeld. She was reported missing on April 30, 2019 to the Whitehall Police Department. The investigation into her disappearance led to the arrest of 47-year-old Douglas Berry for criminal homicide.

Any additional information related to the cause and manner of Elizabeth Wiesenfeld’s death will be released by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
