Homicide suspect arrested in 2017 death of estranged wife

Allegheny County, Pa. – On June 6, 2019 at 4:40 PM, County Police Homicide Detectives arrested 34-year-old Antonio Vecchiola at a Monroeville strip mall for the 2017 homicide of his estranged wife, 29-year-old Jessica Vecchiola.

On Monday, February 6, 2017 at 6:53 PM, Penn Hills Police responded to 1824 Loretta Drive, the home of Jessica Vecchiola, after she was discovered unresponsive by her mother. Jessica was pronounced dead at the scene and on February 8, 2017, a post-mortem examination was performed by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office. At that time, it was ruled by the Medical Examiner’s Office that Jessica’s cause of death was Atlanto-Occipital Dislocation and manner of death pending investigation.

The County Police became involved in the investigation on February 8, 2017 after learning of the suspicious circumstances. The investigation into Jessica’s death had continued over the past couple years.

In January 2019, the investigative details surrounding Jessica’s death were presented to the Medical Examiner’s Office. As a result of that information, the manner of death was changed from “Pending Investigation” to “Homicide.”

Today, June 6, 2019, after continuing the investigation, detectives presented the facts of the case to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office at which time an arrest warrant was issued. Antonio Vecchiola was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment on the charge of Criminal Homicide.
