Police in Vandergrift identified the couple as Louis Pangrazi, age 90 and Evelyn Pangrazi, age 86 who live on the same street where the accident occurred. Vandergrift Police said the elderly Pangrazi was backing out of his driveway when he stepped on the gas while still in reverse. Pangrazi’s gray SUV traveled across the narrow roadway into the grassy area of the Kiski Valley YMCA on Pennsylvania Avenue and struck several trees coming to rest just feet from the roadway in a wooded area.

Both victims were removed from the heavily damaged vehicle and transported just up the street where Vandergrift fire departments typically utilize the large grassy area of the YMCA for a landing zone. Two helicopters landed side by side while both patients were being prepared for air transport.

The extent of their injuries are unknown, but both patients were conscious for air transport.
