Sara Declue, 43, of De Soto, has been sentenced to ten years in jail after pleading guilty to drug charges. According to court documents, her probation for previous drug crimes was terminated, and she was forced to participate in a two-year treatment program.

On March 25, Jefferson County Div. 4 Circuit Judge Brenda Stacey sentenced Declue to ten years in prison for delivery of a controlled substance and seven years for possession of a controlled substance. Stacey also revoked Declue’s probation and sentenced her to two four-year jail terms, which she got in April 2024 after pleading guilty to two counts of possession of a controlled narcotic.

According to court documents, the sentences will be served concurrently or simultaneously for a total of 10 years.

Lindsay Whalen, Jefferson County’s associate prosecutor, prosecuted the case.

According to the probable-cause statement, Declue was arrested on March 4, 2023, after De Soto Police were dispatched to the Phillips 66 gas station, 614 N. Main St., to report a woman and man slumped in a running vehicle parked at a gas pump. Declue was driving.

Officers discovered a pipe with residue in the center console and a pill on the driver’s seat when Declue stepped out of the car. The officers also discovered a bag containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, four capsules that tested positive for fentanyl, two vials of Naloxone, which is used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, a scale, multiple small ziplock bags, and other drug paraphernalia in Declue’s purse, the report stated.

According to the report, 26.17 grams of meth were found, and many of the items in the handbag are regularly utilized for delivering and selling dangerous narcotics.

The arrest marked Declue’s second encounter with illegal narcotics in less than a year. She was again arrested in August 2022 when a deputy from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office observed her throwing something from a 2001 Toyota Camry parked near the Meyer Road and Hwy. 67 crossroads south of Festus, according to the probable cause statement.

The deputy discovered 14 pills containing an unknown substance in the automobile. He also discovered a bag of empty pill capsules, a prescription bottle containing drugs intended for somebody, sleeping pills, a smoking pipe, three needles, and a spoon in Declue’s handbag, according to the report.

Declue found a brown bag containing a crystal-like substance outside the automobile. According to the report, the powder from the tablets tested positive for fentanyl, while the crystal-like substance tested positive for meth.
