County Police Reconstruction Unit Assisting in Fatal Crash in Penn Hills

On (February 7, 2019) at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Penn Hills Police and paramedics were dispatched to the 12000 block of Frankstown Avenue near the Advanced Auto Parts store in response to 9-1-1 calls about a crash.

There they found a two-car, head-on collision. Officers and detectives from the Allegheny County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene. At this stage in the investigation, it appears the at-fault driver was travelling eastbound on Frankstown Road when he crossed the center line and stuck a vehicle travelling eastbound. The 48-year-old at-fault driver was operating a Dodge pick-up truck. He was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The victim is a 33-year-old male and was operating a Nissan SUV. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The investigation is ongoing. At the conclusion, the results will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for determination of charges. Alcohol is believed to be a factor for the at-fault driver.
