Ming Xi Zhang was apprehended in Newark by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after being sentenced to three years probation last year for illegally serving as a foreign government agent, according to authorities.
“Any illegal alien conducting activities related to espionage, sabotage, or export control against the United States is subject to deportation,” stated ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Newark Field Office Director John Tsoukaris.
Zhang first entered the United States in June 2000, according to ICE records. ICE did not specify what caused them to apprehend Zhang, who is still in detention.
