Arrests Made in Verona Burglaries

Allegheny County – On December 17, 2019, detectives from the Allegheny County Police General Investigations Unit were requested to assist the Verona Police Department with a burglary in the 500 block of East Railroad Avenue.

Among the items stolen were two handguns.

During the course of the investigation, several suspects were identified. Based on the information gathered, detectives applied for and were granted several search warrants, and arrest warrants for 26-year-old James Caldwell and 20-year-old Zachary Rogowski. They are both charged with burglary, criminal conspiracy, two counts of receiving stolen property and three counts of theft by unlawful taking.

On January 10, detectives from the Allegheny County Police General Investigations Unit along with the Allegheny County Police Narcotics Vice & Intelligence Unit served search warrants at 471 Center Avenue, 459 North Avenue and 545 Ridge Avenue, all in Verona. During the execution of those search warrants, detectives took Caldwell and Rogowski into custody on their arrest warrants.

Detectives recovered one of the stolen firearms, along with approximately 12 bundles (120 individual stamp bags) of suspected heroin/fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. Walter Rogowski, the 48-year-old father of Zachary, was also arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver narcotics. Photos of these individuals are not currently available.

All three arrestees have been lodged in the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment on their charges.
