Michael Stewart, the Satanic Grotto’s leader, was charged with disorderly behavior and unlawful assembly after an altercation outside the Kansas State Capitol on March 28.
The Kansas Highway Patrol told KCTV that Stewart and the Satanic Grotto were granted permission to meet on the east side of the Capitol building on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Stewart entered the building at 11:28 a.m. and was instructed by the Department of Administration that he could enter but not conduct any demonstrations. He then strolled through security to the first-floor rotunda, where he began his commitment to Satan.
Following an argument, Stewart, 42, and Marcus Schroeder, 21, both ended up in jail.
Schroeder was brought into custody for disruptive behavior.
Two other people, 32-year-old Jocelyn Frazee and 50-year-old Sean Anderson, entered the building with Stewart to demonstrate and were arrested for unlawful assembly, according to Kansas Highway Patrol officials.
The District Attorney’s Office will examine the cases, according to KHP authorities.
