According to a Barbour County Sheriff’s service spokesperson, Mayle departed the service in September 2024 to join the Elkins Police Department. Elkins Police Chief Travis Bennett said the department is aware of Mayle’s arrest and has placed him on administrative leave awaiting an investigation.

At about 2 a.m. A woman called 911 screaming and crying on Sunday morning, prompting police to come to a home on Centre Avenue in Belington. Mayle fled the scene before police arrived, according to court documents.

The victim told police that she and Mayle began arguing at a bar after she requested to leave. Mayle was speeding at over 100 mph while driving her home, constantly swerving off the road, and telling her he was going to kill her, according to court filings.

When the victim tried to get her phone out, Mayle grabbed it and threw it at her, according to police. After she grabbed it again, he ripped it from her and threw it at the windshield, causing a crack, according to court documents.

Mayle grabbed the victim’s back and slammed her head into the windshield, according to police.

When they arrived home, the argument escalated, and the victim went to her bedroom and locked herself inside, according to court documents. She was on the phone with 911 when Mayle made his way through the door, grabbed her by the throat, shoved her up against the door, and then down onto the bed, according to authorities.

According to court filings, Mayle then loaded a firearm and departed the scene.

According to police, the woman sustained multiple injuries, including red marks on both sides of her neck, a three-inch-long abrasion on her forearm, a small abrasion on her right knee, and numerous other red marks on her body.

There was additional damage to the residence and vehicle where the altercation occurred, including a hole in the wall, new drywall on the floor, and a cracked windshield.

Mayle was apprehended in his vehicle, which was about a mile away from the scene and contained two loaded handguns. He was taken to Tygart Valley Regional Jail. He has since bonded out.
