An El Paso Police Department officer with a history of abuse was fired Thursday after being booked on new assault charges.
According to jail records, on February 27, ex-EPPD officer Joshua Anthony Gallardo, who was arrested in 2023 for allegedly beating a woman after leaving a bar, was detained at the El Paso County jail and charged with:
- Assaulting a family member
- Offense date: Aug. 15, 2024
- Terroristic threats/causing fear of serious bodily injury
- Offense date: Jan. 17, 2025
- Assault/impeding breathing/circulation
- Offense date: Feb. 11, 2024
The total bond for all three counts was set at $30,000.
Jail documents reveal Gallardo secured bond and was released on the same day.
A year and a half ago, KFOX14/CBS4 reported Gallardo was arrested and accused of punching a 28-year-old woman as they were leaving a bar in east El Paso on July 9, 2023, following a night of heavy drinking.
Gallardo was assigned administrative duties by EPPD in 2023. However, an EPPD representative verified that as of Thursday, he was no longer employed with the agency.
Gallardo was put into the El Paso County jail on a $7,500 bond for that offense but was released the same day after posting the bond, according to jail records.
According to court documents, Gallardo will face a jury trial for assault charges on April 25. However, the specific incident to which these allegations relate remains unclear.
