Three North Carolina residents were apprehended in Texas after allegedly using counterfeit cash to buy gift cards at a Mississippi Kroger.
Madison police said Kroger on Highway 51 contacted them about the incident at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25. Police were able to determine a suspect description and their car.
Investigators believe the same perpetrators committed similar offenses at other Kroger grocery stores in the Jackson metro region.
Police identified the perpetrators’ vehicle as a silver Kia Soul with a North Carolina license plate and notified authorities in Louisiana and Texas.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office in Texas found and stopped the vehicle at 11:00 p.m., alerting Madison police. The Smith County Sheriff’s Office in Texas arrested three people.
The suspects were identified as Alice Fisher, 67; Marita Williams, 45; and Tylec Williams, 26. Madison police detained all three suspects.
In Madison, Fisher will face felony false pretense and felony conspiracy to commit a crime. Marita and Tylec Williams will face charges of felony conspiracy to commit a crime.
All three accused will remain in Smith County Jail as they await criminal proceedings.
