Three people, one of whom is a juvenile, have been charged in a drive-by shooting that occurred last week in Rankin County.
Officials responded to allegations of a disturbance involving gunfire around 3:56 p.m. on Thursday, March 27th, according to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department. The event occurred on Cedar Brook Drive, near Pearl.
Upon their arrival, the deputies found that the gunshots had not harmed anyone or destroyed any property. The deputies learned during witness interviews that a verbal argument between two individuals had escalated into a physical altercation.
One of the individuals involved attempted to flee the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee, but a passenger in the backseat leaned out the window. The passenger, later identified as Lamarquis Trevail Green, fired several bullets at those gathering.
Law enforcement organizations in the region received a BOLO, or Be on the Lookout, alert.
The automobile was found along Greenwood Avenue in Jackson. State and federal law enforcement officers apprehended the occupants and recovered the handgun used in the incident.
Following the arrests of the vehicle’s occupants, authorities determined that Lamarquis Green had a previous felony record from Mississippi.
Green was charged with drive-by shooting and possession of a handgun by a felon.
Raekya Fashay Mitchell, the vehicle’s driver, was charged with accessory after the fact to a drive-by shooting for supporting Green during the event.
We have also charged an anonymous adolescent involved in the event, but we won’t release his name at this time.
Green is presently jailed without bond at the Rankin County Detention Center. Green and Mitchell are set to make their first appearances in Rankin County Court next week.
