Youth dies in Salem Township house fire

Salem Township, Pa. – One person has died as a result of an overnight house fire in Salem Township located on Fennel Street after becoming trapped inside his residence.

Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha said Jeremy T. Rugh, 22 y/o male of 268 Fennel Street died after witnesses said a fire began on the first floor of the residential duplex. The incident occurred at approximately 1:06 am as fire quickly engulfed the structure.

Coroner Bacha said Rugh was unable to escape and succumbed to fatal injuries. Deputy Coroner Joshua C. Zappone pronounced the decedent dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed by Dr. Cyril H. Wecht and Pathology Associates on January 5, 2018.

2 people made it out of the house ok and authorities brought in a demolition crew early Friday morning to bring the structure completely down due to safety concerns.
