Woman smacked on head with 2×6 board during domestic dispute

Arnold, Pa. – Police in Arnold arrested a Trafford man after allegedly smacking a Arnold woman on the head with a 2×6 piece of lumber on Sunday morning just after midnight.

According to the police criminal complaint, Arnold Police Officers Wes Biricocchi and Officer Stanga were dispatched to 1615 4th Avenue for a physical domestic reported by the defendant’s daughter.

Police arrived on scene to find Robert Caldwell, age 57 of Trafford bleeding from above the left eye. Caldwell stated the victim had hit him in the face and wanted her arrested. Caldwell was asked to remain outside with officers to await EMS. Officer Biricocchi went to speak with the victim about the incident. Caldwell was highly intoxicated to the point he continuously insisted the victim had fled the residence.

Police were able to locate the victim in an upstairs bedroom with her 3 kids. The victim stated when she returned home, Caldwell began arguing with her and was told to go to bed. Shortly after, Caldwell came out of the bedroom and insisted his youngest daughter come to bed with him. The victim did not feel comfortable with this as Caldwell was under the influence of alcohol and or a controlled substance.

The victim stated Caldwell began poking and pushing her in the hallway. The victim stated she was sitting on the steps when Caldwell came over to her and smacked her on top of the head with a 2×6 wooden board. At this point, the victim stated she was hit with the board and jumped up and grabbed Caldwell by pushing him backwards onto a mattress. The victim stated when she pushed Caldwell back, he hit his eye off the corner of the door frame causing it to bleed.

Police also spoke with the daughter who corroborated the victims story. Police determined that the victim acted in self-defense at the time of the incident.

Caldwell was checked and cleared by New Kensington EMS and placed under arrest to be transported to New Kensington holding sales to await arraignment. While being transported to lock up Caldwell continued saying, “your f****** done”. Caldwell was advised of his right to remain silent and anything he says can and will be used against him in the court of law.

I advised Caldwell that I hoped he was not making threats towards police. Caldwell replied, “no none of this is towards you when I get out of here she’s f****** done”.

Police again reminded Caldwell of his right to remain silent. The victim was also checked by New Kensington EMS who was complaining of head and neck pain. The victim was transported to Allegheny Valley Hospital for an evaluation.

Caldwell faced a video arraignment before the Honorable District Magistrate Frank Pallone Jr. on Monday afternoon. Caldwell was charged with M2 Simple Assault, M1 Terroristic Threats W/ Int To Terrorize Another and S Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact.

Caldwell posted a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to face a preliminary hearing on 09/21/2017 @ 11:15 am in New Kensington.
