Alle-Kiski Valley, Pa. – A Washington Township man had died after suffering trauma to his body in Washington Township Sunday evening following an excavating incident on his property.

Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha said the incident occurred at 254 Pine Run Church Road about 6:20 pm when the operator of a backhoe was discovered in the rear of his enclosed cab with evidence of trauma to his body. Coroner Bacha said the decedent was identified as James J. Tonecha, 54 y/o male from Washington Township. Washington Township Police investigated the incident. The cause and manner of death will be determined pending autopsy and toxicology results.

New Kensington, Pa. – Multiple sources reported New Kensington Police Chief Jim Klein has resigned from the force. Chief Klein started with the department in 1992 as a patrolman and became chief in 2015 replacing current county detective Tom Klawinski. No replacement has been named.

Verona: A 59 year-old woman from Verona has died after a head on crash in Homewood early Friday morning. Authorities said Rhonda Everson was ejected from an SUV that crashed with a pickup truck on Frankstown Avenue about 5:25 am Friday morning. Police say the male driver of a pickup fled the scene after the crash. The cause of the crash is unknown.
