Upper Burrell police warn of phony IRS telephone calls

Upper Burrell, Pa. – Upper Burrell Police is reporting the department is getting numerous complaints about phone scams involving persons identifying themselves as an IRS agent.

Police said the caller will state that back taxes are past due and need to be paid immediately or an arrest warrant will be issued. The caller ID displayed on the victims phone will often read “IRS”. We are reminding the community that the legitimate US Internal Revenue Service does 100% of their communication with taxpayers through the mail, never by phone. If you get a call like this, please hang up or do not answer.
