Small barn burns to the ground in Lower Burrell

Lower Burrell, Pa. – Firefighters in Lower Burrell responded to a small barn and chicken coop fire Tuesday afternoon along Wildlife Lodge Road and Sullivan Drive just before 2:30 pm.

A large smoke plume could be seen from SR 56 bypass in New Kensington as crews raced to the scene to put the blaze out. By the time crews arrived on scene, nearly all of the wooden structure burned to the ground.

Police on scene said several chickens perished in the fire. There were no human injuries reported. Tankers were utilized in the 5-alarm incident as no hydrant supply was close by.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
