Butler County, Pa. – Emergency officials were on scene of an A.J. Myers school bus that overturned about 2:30 pm in Bulter County on SR 228 near the Luciano’s Brick Oven Restaurant. Fire crews have gone to Response 4 with multiple EMS units on scene.
The bus is on it’s side off the roadway and over an embankment with the back emergency door open where students escaped. Some students are being evaluated on scene. SR 228 is shut down in the area of the crash. Command on scene is asking for a weather report due to the incoming occurrence of rain that is expected in about 50 minutes (Time Now: 3:41 pm). Students were sitting on a curb near the CVS Pharmacy awaiting pickup but now appear have been moved indoors or located at the front of CVS.
At least 6 patients of the 41 on board were transported from the scene with a total of 10 injuries. Responding units have been downgraded to non-emergency. The re-integration point for parents will be at CVS Pharmacy at Pittsburgh Street. Fire response was terminated at 3:47pm.
Mars Area School District Statement: In an effort to keep you informed, Mars Area School District is following up on its report of an accident involving Secondary School Bus #4 that occurred along Route 228 at approximately 3 p.m. today (Monday, Sept. 24).
As per District procedure, 911 was immediately called and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene. All students who were on the bus at the time of the accident were examined by emergency medical personnel and their parents were contacted directly.
After their parents were contacted, six (6) students were taken by ambulance to the hospital. The remaining students were either released to their parents or transported by bus to UPMC Passavant Hospital – Main.
