One person dead-one in custody after shooting incident in Vandergrift

Vandergrift, Pa. – (Update @ 3:29 am) Vandergrift Police Chief Joseph Caporali said at approximately 10:02 pm police were dispatched to 508 Longfellow Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival they found a deceased white male. Taken into custody was Ashley Marie Croft, age 35 and a resident of Vandergrift who was interviewed at the Vandergrift Police station by the Westmoreland County Detectives and will be charged with homicide by the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau. The victim’s name has not yet been released by the coroner’s office.

Chief Caporali clarified this was not a home invasion. Further details on the incident will come at a later time said the chief. The victim was visiting the residence and the alleged suspect did make a statement.

AKVNEWS ON SCENE: At the scene, police had yellow tape blocking what appeared to be a front yard in the 500 block with one officer stationed at that location securing the scene. The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office has been called to the scene.

Several Allegheny Township Police units were at the scene and subsequently left just before 11:00 pm. Several sources are reporting the incident stemmed from a home invasion, however that information has not been confirmed by police authorities.
