Paramedic charged with theft and possession of controlled substances

Alle-Kiski Valley, Pa. – A paramedic working for ambulance services in Freeport and Vandergrift is charged with stealing narcotics from ambulances in both communities.

According to the police affidavit, in March of 2016, PSP Kittanning was requested to handle a theft investigation which was reported and occurred at the EMS/Fire Department in Freeport Borough in Armstrong County. Freeport EMS Director Andrew Guzzo indicated that the narcotics kits in the ambulance units were tampered with and an employee was suspected.

As an internal investigation was conducted, all employees were ordered to submit blood tests and at that time all but one employee was cleared. Guzzo indicated that the pending results belonged to Jonathon McCulley. Aware of McCulley’s part time employment with another local EMS comapany, Guzzo contacted Vandergrift EMS and was made aware of meds that were tampered with in a unit in Vandergrift

Upon further investigation, McCulley was charged in the Vandergrift incident with Int Poss Contr Subst By Per Not Reg, 3 charges of Int Poss Contr Subst By Per Not Reg, Theft By Unlaw Taking-Movable Prop, Receiving Stolen Property, Burglary – Overnight Accommodation, Person Present. Charges in the Freeport incident were waived to court.

A preliminary Hearing on the Vandergrift incident is scheduled for 07/05/2016 at 10:30 am before the Honorable Magisterial District Judge Cheryl J. Peck-Yakopec.
