One man injured in 56 bypass crash; vehicles total loss

Lower Burrell, Pa. – A Greensburg man sustains minor injuries after a rear-end crash on SR 56 bypass after being rear-ended near Flyer’s Field Friday afternoon.

Lower Burrell Law Enforcement Officer Steve Cernava said it appeared a Chevy Van driven by a Greensburg man headed Westbound was struck from behind by a Lower Burrell juvenile operator traveling in the same direction. It was not immediately known if the van driver was pulled over on the berm or was pulling over to the berm when the incident occurred.

The van operator suffered a minor cut to the forehead while the Lower Burrell juvenile operator did not appear to be injured. Officer Cernava said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash. Both vehicle were a total loss.

Assisting at the scene was Lower Burrell EMS, Station #54 and Station #69 fire crews. Traffic was able to pass past the accident scene in the left hand lane while police processed the incident. Both vehicle were towed from the roadway that was down to one lane for more than an hour.
