New Kensington, Pa. – Fire crews from New Kensington, Arnold and Lower Burrell responded to an industrial fire at the UniFirst Corporation in the 1100 block of 2nd Avenue about 11:30 pm Wednesday evening.

New Kensington First Assistant Fire Chief Ed Saliba Jr. said the fire was accidental in nature. The fire began in a bin that had mop heads that had just come of a dryer. Chief Saliba said spontaneous combustion was the cause and has happened before. The building was sprinklered and held the fire in check. The fire created a lot of smoke damage that would require a lot of cleaning.

Crews were ventilating the structure and checking the rooftop for fire extension. Chief Saliba reported the fire extinguished at 12:22 am with approximately 40 firefighters on scene. No injuries were reported.
