Head-on crash kills South Bethlehem Borough woman

Mahoning Township, Armstrong County, Pa. – A 74 year-old woman lost her life after a head-on motor vehicle crash along SR 28/66 about 3:42 pm Tuesday afternoon.

Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers said Sheila Belinda Nair, 74, of New Bethlehem was fatally injured when the car she was driving crossed the double yellow line and struck a commercial truck head on. This incident happened on State Route 28/66 approximately 100 yards south of South Bethlehem Borough in Mahoning Twp., Armstrong Co.

Sheila Belinda Nair of New Bethlehem, Clarion Co. was the driver of a 2017 Volkswagen Passat traveling North on State Route 28/66 when she crossed the double yellow line striking a 2016 Freightliner M2 going south driven by Kenneth G. Plyer,53, of Kittanning. Mrs. Nair was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Brian K. Myers. The subject was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags did deploy. The incident is still under investigation by the New Bethlehem Police Dept. Funeral arrangements for Nair are unknown at this time.

The Coroner’s office was assisted at the scene by Distant Fire Dept., Clarion Ambulance Service, Armstrong Co. District Attorney’s Office and Armstrong Co. Sheriff’s office.
