Vandergrift, Pa. – Fire crews in Vandergrift responded to an early morning house fire in the 800 block of La Belle Vue Road after reports of a woman down in the front yard and possible entrapment.

Vandergrift Fire Chief Steve Potoka said the call came out just after 8:00 am with crews arriving in minutes to find heavy fire on the 2nd floor of the structure. Crews immediately went into a defensive attack until a good amount of the fire was knocked down that allowed firefighters to enter the structure.

Chief Potoka also said upon his arrival to the scene, the woman was sitting upright in a chair. The house was occupied by an adult and a child. The woman was being cared for in an EMS truck while crews continued to bring the fire under control.

A short while later, what appeared to be a lifeless small kitten was rescued from the structure. Fire crews employed a small oxygen mask to the kitten for more than 20 minutes while applying warm blankets and water. Several minutes later, the kitten was moving around a bit slowly, but appeared to be out of danger.
