West Tarentum, Pa. – A strong odor of natural gas in a large apartment building at the corner of Center Street and West 7th Avenue brought out all three Tarentum fire companies about 5:00 pm Saturday afternoon.

Sources on scene said the basement had a dangerous amount of gas fumes as crews opened windows and doors as the first step in ventilating the structure. Large fans were utilized to force the fumes from the structure while crews checked all the rooms in the apartment for possible occupants.

The source of the gas leak was not immediately known. No injuries were reported.
