Dump truck vs. SUV in Allegheny Township crash; driver runs light

Allegheny Township, Pa. – One person sustains injuries after a two-vehicle crash with a dump truck Thursday morning in Allegheny Township.

Alleghney Township Police Sgt. Dan Uncapher said the crash occurred in the intersection of SR 356 & 56 near Stanford Home Center when the Vandergrift driver of a Buick Encore failed to stop at the red light to enter on SR 56 and collided with a dump truck causing major damages to the vehicle.

Initial reports from Westmoreland 911 dispatch indicated one person trapped in the vehicle with injuries. The driver of the dump truck from Worthington was not injured in the crash. It was not immediately known if the driver would be cited in the crash, said Sgt. Uncapher.

Fire crews from Station #99 in Allehgney Township conducted traffic control and removed car part/fluid debris from the roadway. Kochka Towing of Vandergrift towed the Encore from the scene. Only minor vehicle detour occurred while the scene was being processed and cleared.
