Allegheny County – At approximately 10:45 a.m. today, May 8, 2018, a 60-year-old male arrived at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC in his personal vehicle suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to a local trauma hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition and expected to survive his wound.
Detectives from the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit responded. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the victim had been in the area of 2900 block of Smallman Street when he became embroiled in an argument with another motorist. The two motorists continued to exchange un-pleasantries along State Route 28 and into Millvale where it culminated in a physical altercation and the victim being stabbed. Both participants were driving red pick-up trucks and the stabbing occurred at the intersection of the Route 28 off-ramp and East Ohio Street in Millvale.
It was determined that 68-year-old John Hoegerl was the other person involved in the altercation. He was located at his home in Millvale and taken into custody without incident. Hoegerl will be charged with aggravated assault and lodged in the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
