New Kensington, Pa. – Stella’s Restaurant in Parnassus recently held a cancer benefit for Cali Semprevivo, a Valley High School Student faced with upcoming surgeries after a diagnosis of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma.

Jamie Mazzotta, one of three owners at Stella’s said her best friend is a teacher at Valley High School who told her of Cali’s recent medical news and wanted to do something to help out with the families expenses. Cali, the oldest of six children is an artist, musician, writer and an all around creative mind. (Top Left in Photo)

(ERMS) Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare histological form of cancer of connective tissue wherein the mesenchymally-derived malignant cells resemble the primitive developing skeletal muscle of the embryo. It is the most common soft tissue sarcoma occurring in children.

Mazzotta said the benefit was in the planning for the past 3 months as donations were solicited for this past Sundays spaghetti dinner, Chinese auction and dunk tank contest. In the planning process, Mazzotta said the benefit for Cali was published in church bulletins and local businesses were contacted for food donations to help raise money for the family with outside expenses, food and parking as Cali’s medical journey continues towards success.
