Allegheny Township, Pa. – Police in Allegheny Township arrested a Spring Church man after leading police on a 70-mile chase that spanned 3 counties after the suspect failed to stop for police near LaBelle Vue Road Thursday afternoon.
Arrested in the chase incident was 31 year-old Andrew Libitzer. Libitzer had multiple arrest warrants for parole violations in Westmoreland and Armstrong counties. Libitzer was apprehended after a state police officer initiated a pit maneuver on SR 66 near the Washington Township fire department. Sgt. Dan Uncapher of the Allegheny Township Police Department said the pursuit began at approximately 5:24 pm when officers received a call for a silver 4-door Mazda operated by Libitzer. The call came in from an off duty officer who knew there were warrants out for the suspect.
Libitzer failed to stop and officers gave chase through several municipalities and counties. The pursuit lasted for about 70 miles with varying speeds but not excessive speeds. During the pursuit, Libitzer’s vehicle make contact with his vehicle into a marked PSP unit in near Elderton. The contact spike strips were deployed on 5 occasions in an attempt to get Libitzer stopped. Sgt. Uncapher said the vehicle was successfully spike stripped and finally stopped on SR 66 near the fire hall. Libitzer resisted police arrest at the scene of the pit maneuver as multiple police officers converged to take him into custody.
Libitzer was subsequently taken to Allegheny Township police department for questioning and later taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital for medical evaluations. Libitzer would be later returned to Allegheny Township for night court arraignment or taken to the Westmoreland County Jail.
Charges: pursuit related charges and a long list of traffic violation charges. Assisting was Washington Twp. Pd, Vandergrift Pd, PSP Kiski, PSP Indiana, PSP Armstrong, Apollo Boro PD and Kiski Twp. Police Department.
