Friday – November 16th:
Dreary Weather Continues: A major winter storm that passed through the Alle-Kiski Valley on Thursday is now sweeping north along the East coast putting down heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain as the day progresses. The nor’easter will continue to produce heavy snow in northern New England and rain along the coastline. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect from Pennsylvania to Maine, including State College and Scranton, Pa. Today’s forecast for the A-K Valley: slight chance of snow with patchy freezing drizzle, then a chance of slight rain. Temps are in the lower 30’s – winds southwest 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday – November 15th:
Alle-Kiski Valley – Crashes and Trees Down: An early morning freezing rain combined with subsequent warming temperatures are keeping Police and Fire departments busy with numerous vehicle crashes and multiple reports of trees and wires down all over the tri-county area. Crashes were reported in Harrison Township – a 3-car MVA on SR 28 NB near the Saxonburg overpass with at least 2 vehicles over the hillside and a one vehicle crash into a ditch along SR 908. Frazer Township for trees and wires down along Bailys Run Road. Portions of the Pennsylvania Turnpike are under reduced speeds due to the nasty weather.
In Westmoreland County, SR366 Greensburg Road @ the ramp for SR 66 involving a tractor-trailer. Westmoreland County 911 dispatch has been busy with an abundant number of incidents involving trees and wires crossing roadways and car crashes. What’s next?
From The National Weather Service: WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING…
* WHAT…Mixed precipitation. Additional wet snow accumulations of up to one half inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are expected.
* WHERE…Portions of southwest and western Pennsylvania, east central Ohio and northern and northern panhandle of West Virginia.
* WHEN…Until 7 PM EST this evening.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The ice will result in difficult travel conditions. Expect reduced visibilities at times.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
Wednesday – November 14th:
Vehicle Crash Tarentum: Police and EMS crews responded to a 2-vehicle rear end type crash at the Marathon Gas station in Tarentum. 2 patients were being evaluated for injuries. Minor debris and fluids on the roadway.
Tuesday – November 13th:
Penn Hills Shooting Update: A man found dead in Penn Hills on Monday evening has been identified as Brian Kelly Dalton, 26, of Pittsburgh. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said Dalton had been shot multiple times in the head.
Hot dryer in East Deer Township: Fire crews in East Deer Twp responded to a resident’s concern over a dryer that was smoking earlier in the day. The resident in the 300 block of Bailies Run road wanted to be sure the situation was in-fact over with and there was nothing to worry about from the earlier incident. Crews checked out the complaint, shut off the breaker and cleared the scene. Residents are URGED to keep the lint screens clear of lint to help prevent a dryer fire.
Hazardous Weather Outlook for the A-K Valley:This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for east central Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, southwest Pennsylvania, west central Pennsylvania, western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and northern panhandle of West Virginia.
.DAY ONE…This Afternoon and Tonight. Hazardous weather is not expected at this time. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Wednesday through Monday.
A wintry mix of precipitation is expected Thursday and Thursday evening, with a change to all snow Thursday night. There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding precipitation types, which will impact snow and ice accumulations.
Homer City Man Found Dead: A team of searchers in Homer City discovered the body of Christopher Anderson about 10:30 am Tuesday morning near the intersection of Old Route 119 and Lucerne Road. Anderson, age 32, had been reported missiong since Monday night by State Police in Indiana, Pa. State police were joined in the search by Indiana County Emergency Management Agency and the Homer City and Coral-Graceton fire companies.
Brackenridge: Police in Brackenridge investigating another vehicle hit with damages in the 700 block of 9th Avenue.
Tarentum Police: Monday Night – 9:55 pm – Police reporting a male in a white coat checking car doors on 9th Avenue. No block number was given.
Allegheny Township: On November 7th, Rich and Catherine Hooks lost their home and all their possessions in a fire. Rich, a Life member at the Markle VFD, served nearly 40 years as an active firefighter. Catherine was home with her daughter at the time of the fire and were able to escape the fire without injury. The Markle VFD, Allegheny Township VFD and Allegheny Township Public Safety Director are teaming up and holding a Spaghetti Dinner Benefit for the Hooks Family. Dinner will be held on December 2nd at the Markle Volunteer Fire Department, 470 Joyce Street from 12 noon to 5pm. Cost will be $10 per plate. All proceeds will go to the Hooks Family.

Brackenridge Mischief: Police in Brackenridge, Harrison and Tarentum are investigating damages to several vehicles over the weekend that appear to have come from either a bb gun or a pellet gun. Multiple vehicles were the target in Brackenridge while 2 other vehicles were damaged in Harrison and Tarentum.
Tarentum Parade: The 13th Annual Christmas parade will be held this Saturday, November 17th. The parade will start from Fifth Street by the Tarentum Bridge, 5th to Corbet Street, then First Avenue to Morgan Street in Brackenridge. An after-event will follow the parade in Riverview Memorial Park.
Breaking News Shooting: Penn Hills – Police are investigating a fatal shooting near the intersection of Blackadore Avenue and Beechford Road shortly before 6:30 pm. Police said a male was pronounced dead after being shot multiple times. More on this story later as details are released.
