Vandergrift Fire Chief Randy Dunmire said the owner was working on a vehicle last night-this morning and started it up around noon for the first time when the engine caught fire. Fire from compartment spread to the garage and upper part of the structure’s back wall.
Chief Dunmire said a neighbor was using a garden hose on the structure to try to put the fire out. Damages to the second vehicle inside the garage appeared to be minor. Fire crews entered the attic portion of the garage hosing down hot spots and tossing smoldering debris out the front window. No injuries were reported.
Assisting Vandergrift Fire units was Lower Burrell and Station 49 Oklahoma. Damages to the garage appeared to be moderate.
