16 year-old youth dies in Armstrong County Fire

Armstrong County, Pa. – A 16 year-old youth has died as a result of an out-building fire in South Bend Township overnight along Oak Hill Road sometime after midnight Wednesday morning.

Brian K. Myers, Armstrong Co. Coroner said Levi Hunter Shellhammer, 16, was found in an out building that he was believed to be sleeping in. The building did have heat and electric. The building caught fire and the subject was not able to get out. The parents awoke during the night and found the building ablaze.

Coroner Myers said there are no signs of foul play and the cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the PSP Fire Marshall. Shellhammer was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Brian K. Myers. An autopsy was conducted and toxicology results are pending. Positive identification was made with dental records. The incident is still under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Kittanning and the Armstrong Co. Coroner’s Office.
